Get a full package of beta-3 here. It includes Drupal 6.10, phpedu_profile, all phpedu and contrib modules you require to install the application.
After installation, apart from making sure activated modules, content types, taxonomy, menus, permissions etc meet your needs, there are a number of things to do, to finish setting up phpEdu:
- Check the following 4 content profile types
- profile
- profileedu
- profilekin
- profileother
- Check the following 4 group nodes -
- pe_group
- pe_group_advisers
- pe_group_course
- pe_group_registration
- Create at least 1 campus i.e. a pe_edu content type node
- Create some users. Have in mind students, lecturers, non-academic staff etc. Add a basic profile for them - at least give them a first name and surname.
- Create some groups - Students, Teachers, Staff, Alumni etc. You will need some special groups later.
- Create sections (faculties/departments)
- Create profileedu for each user so you can associate students and staff to different faculties and departments. This is where you allocate levels of study to students.
- Create academic dates (academic year, academic terms and, if required, registration period).
- Create academic programmes
- Go to admin/phpedu and modify the default settings.
These are the first steps to take to get you going.

Hello dakala. My name is Phil. I'm testing this set of modules. I have to say it's actually a program within drupal and I applaud your efforts. I'm very interested in this project to use as a free or low cost e-learning tool. I am testing it now on godaddy lynux mysql/5.0 php/5.x Do you have a bug or issue tracking system? The reason I ask is I enabled a lot of modules and when I activated them I returned a fatal error message regarding memory usage line 2083 in the system.admin.inc file. I enabled the Analytic - http://drupal.org/project/analytic theme. Before I activated all of the modules. Is there an issue with enabling so many modules at one time? Thanks for your work on this project.
I've successfully uninstalled and reinstalled your system. I have not tried to activate all of the modules. I activated the "Content Access" module and then logged out and logged back in. No probs. I came back to your instructions and have some questions regarding them. I have to say open source has it's challanges. Keeps the mind activated on a higher level.
I don't understand your 2 point checks from your instructions.
1.Check the following 4 content profile types
profile
profileedu
profilekin
profileother
2.Check the following 4 group nodes -
pe_group
pe_group_advisers
pe_group_course
pe_group_registration
What do you mean by "check"? Where "specifically" do I check and what am I checking for?
Other issues.
Site building/modules
There are many flags colored deep red "disabled" I'll enable them and see what happens.
There are other bright red flags "missing". I thought would be of interest since I followed your installation instructions.
Here is a list of the "missing" flags.
FileField Meta 6.x-3.0-alpha4 Add metadata gathering and storage to FileField.
Depends on: FileField (disabled), Getid3 (missing), Content (enabled)
Organic Groups Notifications 6.x-1.1 Allows users to receive notifications and subscribe to group content.
Depends on: Organic groups (enabled), Notifications (missing), Notifications_content (missing), Notifications_lite (missing), Messaging (missing), Token (enabled)
Not active per your notification:
Organic groups panels. NOT COMPATIBLE WITH DRUPAL 6 YET. 6.x-1.1 Enable group admins to create panel pages.
Depends on: Organic groups (enabled), Panels (missing), Panels_views (missing), Drupal6 ponies (missing)
I'm concerned with the "missing" issues. If I installed the full package where are they?
Thought this might help. If I'm out of line let me know and I'll stfu.
I love to test.

Hi Tsalagi,
Thanks for your feedback.
If you've downloaded the full package from this site, then you've got all core and contrib modules you need. Some modules contain more than one set of modules but we've tried to enable the ones that are essential for phpEdu. If you don't need any of the disabled modules, then there's no harm leaving them as they are.
There are a couple of modules that haven't been upgraded to Drupal 6.x yet. You definitely don't need any of them at this point in time. And some are dependencies of other modules in the package. You needn't worry about any of those, as long as you don't require them.
After installation, you should make sure a number of things are the way they should be or the way you want them. For instance, we might have disabled comments for a content type but you feel your use case needs comments, so you enable comments for that content type.
The node types and groups mentioned in the instructions are important. For example, the profile-related ones require a setting, making them handled as "content profile" nodes. You should make sure that that setting is indeed correct. The same goes for the group-related nodes.
Hi there,
I'm testing your beta3 at our senior school in Cape Town.
I applaud your interest in providing such a composite spin of D6x. It takes a lot of effort.
The demo site is also attractive. I would like to know how this was done, if possible - I did visit acquia out of curiosity.
I think we'll be able to use phpedu with applicable minor changes. We would also need the Glossary and FAQ modules.
With Drupal 6.11 released, your bets3 now suggests an upgrade, both core and quite a few modules.
This brings to mind a statement on this site:
Upgrade paths can then be provided from starting from beta-4 i.e. you will be able to upgrade from beta-3 to beta-4 without a complete reinstall or updating it yourself.
So far I don't see any obvious auto-upgrade path. Must we wait for this site to release an update?
Thanks and cheers,
yakrider
From the latest version (beta-4) you should be able to upgrade phpEdu from beta-3.
Download http://www.phpedu.org.uk/releases/phpedu-beta4.tar.gz and replace your phpEdu modules with the latest files. Then go to http://yoursite.com/update.php and follow the instructions.
